Electrify Nova Scotia MHZEV Rebate Program

Offered through the Province of Nova Scotia, the Electrify Nova Scotia MHZEV Rebate Program provides rebates for the purchase or lease of qualifying MHZEVs on or after April 1st, 2024.

Rebates are provided on a first-come, first-served basis and will remain available until the program budget is exhausted or the program is terminated.

Eligible vehicles are the same as the federal iMHZEV incentive program with the addition of qualifying ice resurfacers. Please refer to the federal list for qualifying vehicles.

Are businesses and non-profit organizations eligible?

Yes, if they are registered in Nova Scotia or have a business affiliate here.

Are municipal governments and First Nations eligible?

Yes, Nova Scotian municipal governments and First Nations are eligible for rebates.

Are Federal or Provincial departments, agencies, or Crown corporations eligible?

No, Federal and Provincial Crown departments, agencies, and corporations are not eligible for rebates.

Can an individual receive a rebate from the Electrify MHZEV program?

No. Individuals are not eligible to receive a rebate from the Electrify MHZEV program.

Who can submit a rebate request for reimbursement?

Businesses, non-profits, municipalities, and First Nations groups can submit their own individual rebate requests.

Additionally, dealerships and authorized sellers can submit a rebate request. Purchasing and leasing organizations would receive the rebate directly from the dealership/authorized seller at the point-of-sale, after taxes and fees are applied to the vehicle.

When does the Electrify MHZEV rebate program start?

Starting April 1st, 2024, Nova Scotian businesses, non-profits, municipalities, and First Nations groups who purchase or lease an eligible MHZEV are entitled to receive rebates.

When does the Electrify MHZEV rebate program end?

The rebates will remain available until the budget allocated for this program is completely exhausted or until such time as the Government of Nova Scotia decides to terminate it, with or without notice.

Is it a first-come, first-served rebate program?

Yes, rebates are provided on a first-come, first-served basis for approved applicants or eligible purchases and will remain until the program budget is exhausted or the program is terminated.

How does the pre-eligibility form work?

The pre-eligibility form assesses whether the vehicle and non-profit, municipality, business, or First Nations group are eligible. Once approved the rebate amount will be held for 90 days, the rebate application form must be submitted within this time period for the application to the eligible.

 

What if I purchased an eligible vehicle before April 1st, 2024? Can I still get my rebate?

Only eligible vehicles purchased/leased and delivered to the eligible recipient on or after April 1st, 2024, are eligible for a rebate. If the vehicle was ordered prior to April 1st, 2024, but delivered after this date, the vehicle will be eligible for a rebate.  Any vehicle purchased/leased and delivered before April 1st, 2024, are not eligible for an Electrify MHZEV rebate.

Can I purchase or lease an MHZEV outside of Nova Scotia and still qualify for the rebate?

Yes. Vehicles that are purchased outside of Atlantic Canada are eligible to receive a rebate, however if these vehicle types can be purchased within the Atlantic provinces, then the vehicle will receive 75% of the rebate amount. More information can be found in our eligibility guidelines.

 

 

 

Is there a limit on how many MHZEVs that I can purchase or lease and still receive a rebate?

Businesses, organizations, municipalities, and First Nation groups are eligible for up to 10 rebates per calendar year. Unused incentives cannot be carried over to the next calendar year.

What vehicles are eligible for the Electrify MHZEV rebate?

Any vehicles that are eligible for the Federal iMHZEV incentive are eligible for the NS provincial Electrify MHZEV rebate with the addition of ice resurfacers. A list of eligible vehicles and their respective eligibility dates are available on Transport Canada’s list of eligible vehicles.

In order for a vehicle to be eligible for a Electrify MHZEV rebate at the time of sale/lease, the entire vehicle description must appear on the list of eligible vehicles including the year, make, model and trim of the vehicle. Only vehicles purchased/leased and delivered on or after the vehicles respective eligibility date are eligible for the respective rebate amount at the time of sale/lease.

Are Ice Resurfacers eligible?

Yes, ice resurfacers that have a minimum weight of 8,501 lbs are eligible.

Will I have to repay the rebate if I sell my new MHZEV in the first 12 months?

Yes, the minimum ownership or lease period required to retain the full rebate is 12 months. Purchasers or lessees who sell or end their vehicle lease before that time will be required to refund a prorated portion of the rebate. Failure to refund the rebate to the program administrators may result in inability to receive Electrify rebates on future purposes.

Are demonstrator vehicles eligible?

Yes, eligible vehicles that are demonstrators are considered new vehicles and are eligible for the rebate as long as the odometer reading is less than 10,000 km. The vehicle cannot have been registered previously by anyone other than the dealership to qualify.

Are pre-owned medium and heavy-duty zero emission vehicles (MHZEVs) eligible?

No, only new MHZEVs are eligible. New vehicles are ones that have not been plated before, except demonstration vehicles. Demonstration vehicles can be registered and plated to the dealership/authorized seller for demonstration purposes prior to being registered and plated to the eligible recipient organization.

How do I know the maximum eligible incentive amount for a specific vehicle?

By referring to Electrify MHZEV rebate guidelines, you will see the maximum eligible incentive amount per vehicle.

 

How does it work with other incentive programs?

The NS provincial Electrify MHZEV rebate will be applied to eligible MHZEVs in addition to any federal incentive offered, up to 75% of the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of the vehicle.

Are MHZEVs purchased or leased outside of Canada eligible?

No. Only new vehicles purchased or leased in Canada from a licensed dealer or authorized seller are eligible. Licensed dealers/authorized sellers must have a Canadian office and must be a registered Canadian business in order to provide incentives.

What criteria must be met for a vehicle to be considered a commercial vehicle under the Electrify MHZEV Program?

Vehicles in Class 2B and 3 are considered commercial vehicles if the model meets one or more of the following criteria:

  • Has a seating capacity of 9 passengers or more;
  • Has a cargo area (for example, a pick-up truck box or bed) of at least 183 cm (72 in. or 6 ft) in interior length; or
  • Is a truck with container attachment capabilities (for example, chassis cab, half truck).
Do vehicles that meet the weight requirement but are not considered commercial vehicles qualify for the Electrify MHZEV Program?

Yes, Class 2B and Class 3 vehicles that do not meet the criteria of a commercial vehicle will be considered medium-duty passenger vehicles (MDPV) and are eligible for the Electrify MHZEV Rebate Program. More information can be found in our eligibility guidelines.
